Blue-eyed Mary. oil on canvas. 5'x4'
The inspiration and subject for this piece was a doll owned by an elderly neighbor of mine. The doll is so striking if you were to see it in person....no higher than 3 inches, it is aged and dirty, ceramic and fragile...all of these aesthetic qualities form a tension that provoke questions or conversation about her. The painting may elicit your own personal memories from childhood, which often is a guiding interest and hopeful outcome when I create work.
I hope you like it,
Sheena
