back to ohio

I'm in Ohio for a quick weekend visiting parents and celebrating with my soon-to-be sister-in-law!  I wish I had more time to visit everyone but I'll mainly be with the rents.  O...H...

oh please....

Pretty clever

Do you use a lot of yarn?  I do.  ESPECIALLY in my art room at school.  This may not be practical for the art room but it sure looks cute for a small craft studio.

p.s.
these are upcycled coffee cans..

have a great day,

yippee!

It was 70 degrees on Friday....today school is cancelled because of snow.  I am NOT complaining.

not so cheesy Valentines

Take a look at these Valentines that feature original patents of Valentine-related things.  If you go here, you can download and print the images for your personal use.  Pretty nifty.

Looking through a fishbowl.....

Fourth graders did these paintings a while back but they always make me smile.  The question posed was how would you look while looking through a fishbowl?

I LOVE them all - especially the last one (check out those eyes)

Leg of a Housefly

On Monday I promised I'd post images from my new microscope.  I plan to create my own "specimens" but in the meantime, I am entertaining myself with its pre-made specimen slides.  This one is of the leg of a housefly. Gross and awesome.

Newest toy

So I got this microscope.....

and it's pretty awesome.

My plan is to paint a series inspired by the microscopic images I create.  The subjects of these paintings (what I plan to throw under the microscope) are yet to be determined -but I have a pretty good idea of what I want to do.

In the meantime, the microscope came with pre-made specimen slides.  I felt all sixth grade science classy as I ooohed and ahhhed over a 40x zoom of a housefly leg.

I'll post a few images from the 'scope throughout this week, so stay tuned.

Busted

Super Bowl art bet

The Carnegie Museum of Art in Pittsburgh and the Milwaukee Art Museum (closest to Green Bay) have a wager on the super bowl.  If Green Bay wins, the Carnegie will send Pierre Renoir’s “Bathers with a Crab”  to Milwaukee as a temporary loan. If the Steelers win, the Carnegie will get Gustave Caillebotte's “Boating on the Yerres” from 1877.

Daniel Keegan, director of the Milwaukee Art Museum boldly predicted he would soon be welcoming the Renoir to his turf, "where the public can enjoy it and be reminded of the superiority of the Green Bay Packers."

Lynn Zelevansky, the Carnegie's director, responded in true blitzburgh fashion: "In Pittsburgh, we believe trash talk is bad form.  We let the excellence of our football team and our collection speak for itself."

You can read the whole article here.  Have a great super bowl Sunday,

Gosh I love Google

The most awesomest website in the world was brought to my attention yesterday.  Thanks Wes!  Art Project by Google is a huge database of paintings within several of the world's most famous art museums.  It allows you to walk the galleries in London, Paris, NYC, and Berlin, all while you sip a cup of coffee on the couch.  And if that wasn't enough to give you goose bumps, then zooming in on a high res pic of Van Gogh's Starry Night WILL.

enjoy,

Brrrrr....Winter Self Portraits

Check out these awesome self-portraits made by first graders in my art class.  Pretty great for a six year old, right?

The portraits were done on 18x24" paper using oil pastels and watercolor.  We rrrrreallly wanted to emphasize the weather.....take a look at that snow...
