Baltimore

One of the things I love about Baltimore is being close to water. Kyle and I are lucky to be within walking distance to the harbor and on this particular night the sky and lighting were quite unique. The last picture makes the sky look strangely heavy.

Back to School

Ready or not, the 2010/2011 school year has begun. I personally can't wait to dive into new projects and work with my elem. kids to develop an awesome portfolio for the year.

I need to pick out my "first day of school" outfit. Have a great week everyone!

California-the end

I'm really missing the August weather in San Fran as I sit here in 90 degree humidity. Oh east coast....you have definitely lost the weather battle.

California- part 1

I recently went to California and was able to explore Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks. I was floored by the breath-taking views and surrounding nature. It has really inspired me to visit other National Parks and I encourage others to do the same.

Since there was so much to see and photo, I want to now share snippets of the trip. My plan is to organize the images according to a common element. I hope you enjoy the scenery.

Headed to California

When Kyle and I were at the airport for our honeymoon this past March, you could imagine our shock when the flight rep said that the flight was oversold and we had to take a next day departure. After freaking out for 23.5 seconds I realized that being delayed was not at all that bad, especially when given free plane tickets to anywhere in the continental U.S. I am a huge believer of looking on the bright side...making lemonade from lemons....and all of those cliches.

But it's true. Five months later and here we are, finally using those plane tickets. Today we're on our way to California to visit our awesome friends, Max & Melissa. I plan to take way too many pictures as we explore the west coast and get a good dose of the outdoors.

Max & Melissa :)

Have a great weekend!

Talented artist- Kali Haney

I remember meeting Kali on my first day of grad school. I'm not sure if she remembers this, but we were touring our studio spaces preparing to move in when we both introduced ourselves. She said "my name is Kali, like Cali-fornia," (As a teacher who has to learn over 500 names, I appreciated the name association). Instantly, I liked her friendly personality and her talent for making others feel comfortable. What strikes me most about Kali are her seamless connections between being a great friend, an amazing artist, and a wonderful mother to her beautiful daughter Zaida (who is such a cutie you have no idea).

Kali pulls imagery and symbols from her personal experience to create striking compositions. Full of color and rich subject matter, each piece is a reflection of Kali and her aesthetic. However, each piece can be interpreted differently depending on the viewer and depending on which stage they are in life. That is what attracts me most to Kali's work -I get a different response (whether emotional, or conceptual) each time I go back to view her work.
Kali adds,
"I consider my work to be a visual journal of sorts. The images I use are collected in my subconscious and emerge in my daydreams as symbols. Each work allows me to process, organize and gain a clear understanding of my thoughts. My most recent body of work expresses thoughts through imagery related to family, fertility and motherhood."
Take a look at Kali's work. The titles are above each image.
