Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings
For Christmas, my husband Kyle gave me tickets to see Sharon Jones and the Dap the Kings!!! The concert is tonight at the Grand Opera House in Wilmington, DE. It should be a great show...Sharon Jones is a crazy performer and to see her on stage is something I can check off on my list of "must dos."

Pinterest Troubleshooting
I loooove Pinterest but I'm still working out the kinks of embedding images. For some reason, many of the images are not viewable through google reader....but the images will show once you connect to my blog.
I've read and tried a few things -and the images seem to show up on google reader now - so that's good - but clicking on the image itself does not take you to the source. You have to click the links below the images in order to jump to the original source.
whew.
cross your fingers for a snow day tomorrow,

I wanna do this...
Take a look at this upcycled suitcase chair. Doesn't it make you want to drive to the nearest thrift store in order to scavenge for the perfect leather suitcase? I get dibs on it if you find one.

Let's go Pittsburgh
I'm originally from a small town in West Virginia. The closest city was Pittsburgh....and for that reason I'm a Steeler fan. My family and friends are really looking forward to watching the Steelers play today and are hoping to clinch the v. With all that said, Pittsburgh does not get a lot of attention. It's been a while since I've heard "Pittsburgh" in a sentence that does not include the word "Steelers." It's actually quite a town....with a lot of history, grit, and pride. Did you know Andy Warhol is from Pittsburgh? Do you know it's where the Ohio River begins?
Anyways, I leave yins (just a little pittsburgh slang meaning "you guys") with a few images/products that do not necessarily have a football connection but mainly capture the city's character.

Interesting Saturday
Have you ever had a day when you do something you've always wanted to do...or learn about something you've been curious about? Like....going to the library to find books on crochet? (I've done that). Or drag your brother and his fiance to Georgetown in order to ride a boat that's pulled by a mule? (guilty).
Today is one of those days. We're meeting up with friends to learn about the Washington DC Mormon Temple. Let me say this, I am not Mormon. But have you seen this temple?? If you live in the DC area you can't miss it. So instead of continuing to drive by it without a lick of knowledge...we're going to tour its visitors center (We're not allowed to enter the actual temple because my friends and I are not Mormon). This should mean for an interesting Saturday.
I challenge you to do something new today too :). Have a good one.

Troop Beverly Holy Moly
Fact: My favorite movie when I was 8 was Troop Beverly Hills. It was an awesome movie for an 8 year old Brownie/soon to be Girl Scout, have you seen it? I remember watching that vhs any chance I got. It had action, laughs, and just enough pre-teen girl drama to make you giddy.
Fact: I just found out the daughter (see pic above) in the film is JENNY LEWIS. ...from Rilo Kiley...from Jenny Lewis and the Watson Twins.....from Jenny and Johnny. gosh. You have no idea how happy this makes me.
just a little music to lighten up your day :)

Harry Potter geekery
I mentioned a few weeks ago that I'm reading the Harry Potter books. Update: I'm reading the Harry Potter books at record speed. I'm in the midst of book 6: ...the Half Blood Prince, and have become slightly obsessed with the idea of wizardry. I know I know....I'm a little late to this party....BUT, who can resist fun words like Alohomora and Locomotor Mortis?
Anyways, I did a little browse on etsy and found these sweet items.

Great new book
I am an avid collector of many MANY objects and once I start a collection, I canNOT give it up. For instance, I have lugged around a tub full of happy meal toys since the 1990s and I continue to collect cool-looking rocks from my travels. At any rate, collecting has transformed into a source of inspiration for my artwork and I love it when others dig collecting too.
There's a neat book out called A Collection a Day by Lisa Congdon that highlights her personal collections - 365 in all. She says:
“Most of the collections are real and exist in my home or studio; those I will photograph. Some are imagined; those I will draw or (occasionally) paint.”
Her book can be found at Uppercase (awesome site btw) for 25 bucks. I have not ordered my copy but I'll let you know when I do. I'd love to see some of her painted collections.
K. Have a great day,

Dog Portrait: Abby
Before the holidays I was asked by a family friend to paint their childhood dog, Abby. She and her sisters wanted to give the portrait to their parents for Christmas. very cool.
I was happy to paint Abby because I know how special a dog can be to a family...if I could be surrounded by dogs 24/7 I'd be the happiest person ever. (yay for dogs!) Anywho, I'm pleased with the end results and I think the family was too.
thanks,

Happy Henry Darger Day!
While visiting NYC over the holiday with Lauren, I was able to explore the American Folk Art Museum. Thank goodness this was our museum of choice. The city was packed full of people because of the pending ball drop and the MoMa (directly adjacent to the AFAM) was absolutely bursting at the seams.
My love for folk art and self-taught artists were the reasons I wanted to tour the AFAM but I mainly had an urge to see an original Henry Darger!! I am just kicking myself, absolutely kicking myself for not getting up there sooner to view the exhibit showcasing his work. arrrg!
Anywho, I was able to see a few original pieces including this one and this one and that was good enough for me. Hopefully I will get to see more of his stuff in the future.
groove is in the heart,

Happy 2011
Hope everyone had a great time ringin in the new year! I spent the evening with awesome friends in Baltimore and my 2 favorite people- Lauren and Kyle. Even Oscar was able to join in the festivities since we booked a dog-friendly room at the "haunted" Admiral Fell Inn. (we know the extent of its haunted-ness because of our complimentary ghost tour given by Lt. Steve).
I look forward to the new year and hope you do too. Enjoy the last snippets of the holiday break.....Monday sure comes fast.
