DC just got a lot cooler

Did you know there is a Darth Vader gargoyle on the National Cathedral???   YES, it's true.  Back in the 80s, the Cathedral held a children's art contest (bonus points) and good ole Darth was the design chosen. You can find it on the northwest tower (click the link to find out exactly where......you need binoculars).

We went to the Cathedral last Christmas and I am insanely disappointed I did not know this piece of trivia.  We'll look for it next time.

cherry blossoms

Source: google.ca via Sheena on Pinterest

Spring marks the start of the cherry blossom festival in Washington DC!  This year's fest is from March 26th - April 10th with a peak bloom predicted for March 29th-April 3rd.  This is something you need to see at least once in your life.  The blossoms are overwhelming during their peak and the mood of the park is so joyful and relaxed.  People actually take their time to look at the trees.

The pics below are from the festival 2 years ago.  Hope you have a great Monday,

National Cathedral

I hope everyone had a great Christmas! We were fortunate enough to get 4 passes to the National Cathedral's Christmas Eve mass. I had never been to the cathedral before, have you? First of all, it's enormous. And second of all, it's enormous. The architecture and artwork inside and outside the church was unreal. I wish I could have spent a longer time touring the grounds.

We're anticipating lots of snow here on the east coast so we're off to enjoy the day. Have a great rest of the holiday weekend,
