Happy summer

push the little daisies and make em come up

The long weekend was a perfect mix of productivity and relaxation.  I worked on my website -'s STILL not where I want it to be, but it will do for now.  I need to take a web design class for sure.....or I need one of my special friends to design it for me.  Any takers?  We'll'll get there.

We enjoyed hanging out with the Project Dispatch artists too.  Yay for art and new friends.  If you haven't done so already, check out a subscription.

Art room blog

So...I had a blog on edublogs called that displayed artwork my students created.  I loved the layout and how it was spam free but,...I ran out of free space.  Instead of paying a monthly fee I decided to create a new blog on wordpress called  This will be a place my students can go to view artwork, submit extra credit, and also check homework assignments.  If you would like to keep tabs on what I do in my art room please follow MrsCuster and/or save it in your google reader.  Hopefully it provides a shared space for projects and elementary art experiences.

Thanks for supporting school art programs,

Chiang Mai dogs

When we were in Chiang Mai, Thailand, we visited an Elephant Nature Park.  The park cares for 35 elephants but is also home to over 60 dogs, originally found on the streets of Bangkok.  The dogs were LOVING life.  They swam in the river, relaxed on the patio, and my favorite - found cool places to lay inside the souvenir shop.  I love dogs. so. much.

Singapore green

It rained when we went to the Singapore Botanic Gardens, and it was hot - like, really hot.  But, the rain made everything extra lush and colorful.  Even the turtles were enjoying life.

Have a happy weekend,

Statues in Singapore

Outside of Lauren's apartment in Singapore are several statues covered in natural mossy patinas.  At first glance, the sculptures look like they came from the same mold, but upon closer inspection they actually are quite different in body language and detail.  The carved adornments captured my attention in particular.

Other sculptures - like the porcelain ones above - receive protection from the Singapore rain.   When it rains there, it pours.  Those sculptures are better conserved, but I prefer ones that face nature's elements.  What do you think?

Back in the states

Phuket, Thailand

We've returned from our travels!  Magical, unforgettable, and spontaneous are the words I'd use to describe our journey to Singapore, Vietnam, and Thailand.  I am so thankful we experienced this culturally rich section of the world.  It feels great to be home but at the same time, this trip left me wanting more.  We kept saying, "ok, where next?"  We shall see....

Stay tuned for pictures.  I took over 700 (I am also thankful for digital cameras), but I will only post a few from each city.  I am currently grouping the pics by theme -which is a challenge- but it's a worthwhile exercise.  I'll be the first to admit my editing and omission skills need work.  One strong picture is better than four dull ones, right?

I hope all was well and happy in your lives,
